Course overview
Master Application
This applied course will focus on the practice of positive psychology coaching, allowing students to consolidate their learning and hone their PPC skills.
Students will become adept at incorporating PPIs within an evidence-based coaching conversation. They will experience using different evidence-based coaching processes practice to do this, including practice, CBC and solution-focused approaches.
Students will also become familiar with assessment tools for coaching and learn how to administer PP scales to their clients, and how to use the results from these to inform PPC.

During the Practicing Applied Positive Psychology Coaching course, you will:
Learning Objective #1
Be able to differentiate Applied PPC from other coaching models (e.g., applied PPC vs GROW process).
Learning Objective #2
Understand the elements that comprise practicing Applied PPC.
Learning Objective #3
Understand how PPIs can be incorporated within an evidence-based coaching framework.
Learning Objective #4
Refresh their knowledge and understanding of evidence-based coaching approaches, and be introduced to additional approaches in order to expand their practice.

Become familiar with a range assessment tools, understand their usefulness and application, learn how to use the results to inform practice.

Consolidate and synthesise their knowledge and skills by engaging in the practice of PPC and gaining peer and tutor feedback.

Schedule, Format & Fees
This course is delivered online via four three hour live, interactive sessions on Zoom. In total, there are 12 live training hours across four weeks, plus assessments.
Week One
Applying PPIs
- Introduction to the course and setting expectations.
- Review of PPIs through group discussion and shared experiences.
- Incorporating PPIs using an evidence-based approach.
- Coaching practice and triad coaching.
- Successes and challenges of practice.
Week Two
Understanding and applying assessment tools
- Outline learning objectives for the session.
- Identifying useful assessment tools.
- Exploring the use of assessment tools through group conversation.
- Strengths and weaknesses of assessment tools.
Week Three
Evidence-based coaching processes
- Outline learning objectives for the session.
- Recap on evidence-based coaching approaches.
- Triad coaching: bringing it all together.
- Self-reflection: evaluate a recent coaching challenge.
Week Four
Solution-focused approaches
- Outline learning objectives for the session.
- The principles of a solution-focused coaching approach and how this fits with PPC.
- Case studies: discuss what evidence based approaches and tools are most appropriate.
- Real-life coaching challenges.

Meet your instructor
Dr. Marie Stopforth
Marie is a Coaching Psychologist, educator, facilitator and coach supervisor who works with individuals and teams in the areas of performance and wellbeing, and with business leaders and managers around individual and organizational effectiveness.

For nearly 20 years, Marie has been publishing research, and creating and delivering educational programs at the Undergraduate and Master levels.
She is a former Program Leader for the MAPPCP at the University of East London, where she and her co-Program Leader developed a more integrated program for Positive Psychology Coaching. She has published and presented on positive psychology coaching and coaching psychology. Marie is also a committee member and professional development lead for the Special Group on Coaching Psychology with the British Psychological Society.
